The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected women and girls, harming their health, agency, mobility and economic independence. We validated the needs of vulnerable menstruators at the onset of the pandemic and discovered that a majority were significantly less likely to access menstrual and sexual reproductive health services and products, increasing their risk of associated health disorders.

These findings led to the launch of Aarogya Saathi, a free telehealth platform that provides men and menstruators of all ages access to:

  1. One month IVR subscription of reproductive health tips on topics of your choice
  2. Health and hygiene counsel via our trained male and female helpline assistants
  3. Telemedicine consultations, follow-ups and digital prescriptions

Alongside timely access to healthcare and education, the helpline aspires to our vision of reducing gender inequity by enabling men with knowledge and safe spaces to address stigma around their own sexual reproductive health, thereby encouraging them to build supportive environments for menstruators in their family.

We are seeking Aarogya Saathi Operations Leads to help us meet the menstrual and sexual reproductive (MHH & SRH) healthcare needs of vulnerable communities.. You will work closely with Aarogya Saathi Programme Managers and manage a team of helpline assistants who are responsible for operating the helpline.

About Sukhibhava

Sukhibhava aims to uplift 1.5 million vulnerable menstruators across India over the next five years, specifically working with marginalised groups such as sex workers, differently-abled, trans people, low-income and rural communities to support positive attitudes to menstrual health and reduce long-term gender inequity. Menstruation is believed to be ‘impure’ and overwhelming stigma, taboos and a lack of knowledge prevents women, girls and people who menstruate from seeking healthcare, making informed choices about their bodies and participating in school and the workforce.

We believe that normalising menstruation through safe spaces, reproductive health education and open dialogue with not only menstruators, but the wider community of men and boys, local elders and teachers will enable menstruators to become uninhibited in advocating for their rights and reclaiming agency over their bodies. We achieve these outcomes via our four key programmes:

  1. Telehealth Helpline (Aarogya Saathi) - a free menstrual and sexual reproductive helpline that provides access to telemedicine consults and digital prescriptions, IVR-based health education and self-care advice via our trained helpline assistants (launched in 2020 as part of COVID-19 response)
  2. Community & Schools Programme (PeriodShala) - creating safe spaces for community members to normalise reproductive bodily processes and encourage dialogue to improve menstruators health-seeking behaviour, participation and agency
  3. The Period Fellowship - 15 month grassroots fellowship to shape future menstrual and sexual reproductive health leaders
  4. PeriodPreneurs - 15-month incubator to nurture menstrual and sexual reproductive health start-ups in new regions to strengthen the ecosystem
