We build and strengthen child protection systems to ensure that the most vulnerable children are safe, supported, in school, and assured of a childhood free from trafficking, child marriage, hazardous work, violence and exploitation
I. Background
Aangan works with children in dangerous situations like child trafficking, child marriage, hazardous work and abuse. Our prevention model targets "hotspots" across the country where children are most at risk, either because these are known red light areas, sites of hazardous child labor or are associated with harmful traditions like high rates of child marriage and girl child discrimination. Here we work with parents, children and government officials to build strong care and protections that keep children safe.
II. Position Summary
The Sr. Associate, Training will be part of Aangan’s training team, whose focus will be to train and activate Women’s Groups across 2 districts of Bihar, to work closely with Police on issues of child harm like early marriage, abuse, exploitation, forced labour, etc. as safety panels attached to thaanas.
Additionally, this position provides an exciting opportunity to build knowledge and a mind set for working with:
i. The most marginalised women in Bihar and learn how a powerful collective can be built amongst citizens who can work with local officials
ii. The Police system in Bihar and understand what does it take to build community-policing practices in the State
The eventual goal being to ensure that these Safety Panels are actively involved in building protective systems in the community, but also impacting children in the larger community.
III. Key Responsibilities
• Lead and conduct trainings for all women groups across communities using Aangan’s curriculum
• Use innovative methods to deliver Aangan’s curriculum and tools, in order to make the training an exciting and collaborative space to learn
• Develop a comprehensive understanding on Aangan’s curriculum for self so as to lead the execution of existing training modules
• Instil a sense of ownership and group cohesiveness among the women volunteers and draw from them relevant experiences and local knowledge
• Identify trends and gaps during training to feed into the on-going support plan for women groups
• Submit a detailed report of the trainings held including gaps, trends, success stories
Expected Engagement:
Training to be facilitated in Patna, Bihar-----15 groups over 1 month
(to be done 3 times in a year)
Training to be facilitated in Muzzafarpur, Bihar-----8 groups over 10 days
(to be done 3 times in a year)
Expected engagement is subject to change basis the needs of the groups
IV. Competencies and Abilities
• Excellent communication skills that spans across community based women and govt. officials.
• Proficiency in Hindi and English.
• Ability to facilitate large groups in a training
• Creative and critical thinking ability
