Job Description-

  1. Research Project Planning and Management
  • Lead the technical design of research studies, including identifying research questions, developing theory of change, developing indicators, compiling Log frame, considering the appropriate method mix, developing analytical strategies, overseeing sampling design and tool development, data analysis and report writing
  • Lead on applying new research methods and techniques to advance Breakthrough’s research portfolio on social norms and adolescent empowerment
  • Consolidate new and existing research and assessments from BT India
  • Conduct a literature review on the new/existing assessment tools.
  • Extract and update secondary information from different relevant sources and maintain database
  • Convert research design, proposals, or donor requirements into a detailed project plan under guidance of Deputy/Director Research & Evaluation, which includes detailed work schedule with RACI allocation and resource planning
  • Manage project workflow components to ensure project schedules are maintained and any scope creeps are anticipated and managed to deliver project on-time, within budget, and of quality that meets or exceeds donor expectations
  • Participate in project review meetings, overall resource and staff planning, identification of roadblocks and solutions, etc. with Research Director/Deputy Director
  • Manage proposal development process from ideation to proposal submission as any other project. Manage internal strategic or internal research projects as any other donor funded project
  • Work with short term external consultant to conduct Assessments and compile best practices and lesson learned for sharing, learning and decision making for programs’ quality improvement
  • Work with program staff and field staff to codify focus area and consolidate best practices for Breakthrough’s programs so that learnings can be shared across existing operation and rolled out in new ones.
  • Conduct regular site visits to active project sites to ensure compliance with implementation plans, identify problems, and make needed improvements.
  • Stay informed about research and trends in the area of latest research methodologies and recommend improvements to our systems, accordingly.
  • Network with other M&E staff of BT Organization in other verticals to find areas of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • To carry out other tasks as required by the immediate manager and R&E
  1. Field Survey Management
  • Lead and develop field work scope of work, decide role/need/level of efforts/qualifications of internal field staff and external field agencies, review and negotiate budgets and ensure onboarding of the field team
  • Lead training and field planning finalization of questionnaire(s), sampling protocols, field procedures. Ensure data quality checks are being performed and data is collected to meet/exceed donor requirements
  • Ensure that routine/standard data quality checks are established prior to the start of surveys and during its implementation. Coordinate between and take appropriate actions with research, data and field teams to address identified data issues
  • Deliver high productivity and quality data in presentable mode by developing and running validation checks, integrity checks, resolving data discrepancies ensuring Breakthrough ethical and child safeguarding policy.
  • Develop plan for data collection procedure/ guidelines and provide feedback to all staff involved in data collection on the quality of data.
  1. Efficiency and Continuous Process Improvement
  • Identify existing SOPs or need for any new SOPs especially for research ethics for the project and make sure that team members are aware and committed to using SOPs. Innovate, improve and improve existing systems for project management, research execution and strive for efficiency with quality
  • Cultivate relationships across research agencies and partners including identifying new partners for collaboration given Breakthroughs priority areas of work with a focus on norm change
  • Lead and contribute to knowledge creation; capacity building and dissemination within the organisation and externally by writing including writing articles, blogs and published pieces to disseminate research outcomes

Specific Knowledge, Skill & Experience Required

  • 8-10  years’ of work in the field of research
  •  Minimum of / Masters in Social Work / Economics /anthropology / Human studies.
  • Computer and development software handling(SPSS, STATA, ATLAS, R, NVivo)
  • Skilled in research methodologies including quantitative and qualitative studies and an in depth knowledge of new innovative methods
  • Good command over written and spoken English and Hindi
  • Good hands-on experience of working on projects
  • Understanding of the field of gender and adolescents will be preferred
  • Attitude to view social problems from prism of research
  • Ability to work in a team with a positive attitude
  • Able to work in different projects simultaneously
