Position Summary

The Mission of the Development team is to build lifelong champions of the cause and to acquire financial support for the movement. The Acquisitions Manager will enable this by identifying new sourcing pools, and onboarding new partners onto the movement, to support Teach For India’s ambitious goals. This will include producing compelling written communications, crafting customised materials and development strategies that inspire a base of donors to invest, while developing extensive knowledge of Teach For India’s programmatic and operational initiatives and impact. Leveraging exceptional writing ability, strategic thinking skills and project management experience, the Acquisitions Manager would be responsible for collaborating with internal stakeholders such as City Directors, Vertical Heads, Communications team to prepare, write and edit grant proposals, donor reports and other high stakes external communications for a select set of fundraising portfolios.

Team Overview

Teach For India embarks on a bold vision – by 2022-23, 5000 Fellow and Alumni, along with our children will be on the path to developing their own leadership and working towards educational equity in India. This ambitious growth needs to be supported by financial resources which the Development team will help secure in addition to building partnerships that go beyond providing only financial support to fuel this growth. 

Development is one of the critical backbones of the organizations as the organization is completely dependent on donations in its current form. The team raises funds from various sources -  Corporate CSR will continue to be our mainstay for the immediate and medium-term. We are also cultivating Foundations as medium-term priorities. 

Additionally, we are building our capacity in the Multilateral and Impact Investing space by engaging with organisations such as USAID, UNICEF, and the likes. Over the past year, we have also piloted two online campaigns, and are looking to continue with such campaigns on a yearly basis.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Acquisitions Manager will include, but are not limited to:

  • Raise funds by building new champions, and ensure 100% of the new funding goals are met
  1. Generating clear and compelling written communications for key external audiences, including the preparation of donor proposals, concept notes, reports, high-stakes emails, PowerPoint presentations, and other communications to inspire prospective donors to support Teach For India
  2. Build and allocate portfolios for team members, and drive pursuit of Corporations, Foundations and strategic alternative sources of funding
  3. Proactively service leads generated through the pull factor, and engage connectors to build a steady list of new prospects 
  4. Revise and build a comprehensive and adaptive strategy for the current and successive year
  • Central Project Management
  1. Enable bi- monthly collaborations, a space to share insights and learnings with the wider team, drive for results, and ensure updation of relevant donor management systems like Salesforce and Team Drives
  2. Centrally manage the writing production process to support the timely review and submission of external materials for regional team members, including developing production timelines, defining division of labor, reviewing donor criteria, and coordinating the review and assembly of required donor documentation
  • Build capacity in team members thereby developing a world-class team
  1. To maintain and share updated repositories of new proposals and learning documents, while reviewing the team's work
  2. To create bi-annual open spaces to amplify voice and dialogues, surface barriers to execution, problem solve, learn and share, celebrate, collaborate. Ensure that the strategy is revised and updated as per the feedback/reflective proces

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication and writing skills (in English). 
  • Exceptional reasoning and strategic problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills, project management and must pay attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to juggle several competing priorities at once with a solutions orientation and spirit of flexibility
  • Strong in the people quadrant with the ability to work with various people and build relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, working independently while also being a team player
  • Commitment to excellence and accuracy, with an ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook preferred
  • 5+  years of relevant work experience in client-facing roles
  • Graduate/ Postgraduate
  • Strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Sectoral exposure to corporates/ foundations / worked with HNIs with experience with fundraising preferred
  • Draws satisfaction from supporting other individuals towards success and playing an integral behind-the-scenes role
  • Teach For India Fellowship experience is preferred
