 Project Description:

ACCELERATE

The overarching goal of the ACCELERATE program is to implement, evaluate, and transition sustainable and novel models of HIV testing and care. The ACCELERATE program will provide technical assistance (TA) to National, State, and District HIV/AIDS programs to deliver comprehensive HIV prevention and treatment services to vulnerable populations including key populations (KP) and their partners; and Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

 YRG Care

Established in 1993, Y.R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education (YRG CARE) is a premier non-government organization providing comprehensive HIV services in India. Its objective is to provide prevention, care, support and treatment services for people living with HIV/AIDS, to prevent new infections, and to ensure that patients and their families are treated with dignity. It is one of the sub-recipients of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) for the ACCELERATE program, a five-year program supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in India.

 Establishment of ART Centre  in Private medical colleges (PMC)

The comprehensive HIV services in the national program are being provided by more than,  590 ART centres across the country. In June 2019, the GoI  has made it mandatory, for all  medical colleges (private & govt) to establish ART centers to provide comprehensive HIV services. There are approximately 200 private medical colleges that now need to provide ART to PLHIV based on this policy. NACO has issued guidance regarding a partnership where the government will provide drugs and technical support for Private Medical College to functionalize ARTC.

In this context, Accelerate will be supporting NACO to operationalize  50 medical colleges by providing technical and training support to to  improve access to ART for PLHIV in districts with no ART facility or  in districts with high prevalence of HIV.

Through this position, the aim to is to technically support and build capacity, mentor ART staff at PMC  to strengthen the processes and systems for improving the ART preparedness, initiation, retention of PLHIV on ART for  maximum viral suppression 

 Job description:

The PO (PMC) in collaboration with NACO,SACS and Accelerate Team will facilitate establishment of ART in identified PMC as per NACO norms and provide technical assistance, capacity building and onsite mentoring to identified Medical Colleges where the project is providing support for treatment and retention related activities across the country.
