Manager – Research and M & E

Salaam Bombay Foundation (SBF), a Mumbai based NGO started in 2002 with its presence now across Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and a few parts of rural India (for the rural program for preventive health), is an organization that works with adolescents from low-income communities to help them stay in school and empower them to make the right choices about health, education and careers. SBF programmes working towards fulfilling the mission of ‘every child in school has a future’ are aimed to keep a socio-economically vulnerable population of school-going adolescents, between ages 11 to 18 years, from dropping out due to various reasons like pressure to contribute to family income, addiction to forms of tobacco and even just disinterest in the school curriculum. These programmes work closely with government and government-aided schools towards ensuring continuity of education for adolescents during their formative years which in turn improves their chances for better
opportunities and life outcomes in future.
SBF is looking for a Full Time Manager – Research and M & E with
1. Education criteria:
Master’s degree in Social sciences/ Statistics/ Social work/ Public health or any other relevant discipline. MPhil/PhD will be an additional advantage.
2. Programmatic Experience:
a. Minimum 5-8 years of hands-on experience in leading, conducting outcome/impact and evaluation studies and working with grassroots organisations/ community based organisations/ NGOs/INGOs. Working in the domains of health and education of adolescents will be a plus
point.
b. Minimum 3-4 years’ experience of working with programmatic monitoring and evaluation processes (Theory of Change, LFA, data collection, programmatic monitoring and evaluations etc.)
c. Planning, management, data analysis and reporting together with developing and implementing comprehensive M & E Strategies for the Project;
d. Development and strengthening institutional monitoring, inspection and evaluation procedures
e. Minimum 3-4 years of experience of leading and managing large field teams which might be located in other cities.
f. Experience of handling external research vendors/partners and their field teams
g. Ability to manage research budgets and costs Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the area of monitoring and evaluation
h. Building capacity of staff through training to ensure adoption of new/modified data monitoring tools and quality of data collected
i. Knowledge of working with individuals with different contexts and skill sets, ability to show empathy to colleagues while adhering to strict timelines of the M&E function
3. Research Experience
a. Minimum 5 years’ experience in scientific research with grassroots organisations/ community based organisations/ NGOs/ INGOs
b. Minimum 2-3 years of leading and designing projects/ studies including quantitative and qualitative data is a must (collecting data, tool designing, analysing secondary and primary data sets, making basic reports and analysis summaries)
c. Knowledge of MS Excel is must. Knowledge of statistical software like SPSS and qualitative software like Atlas Ti is preferable.
d. Ability to design and make effective research and M & E presentations.
4. Documentation skills
a. Experience in leading teams towards process of structuring various reports, modules, training structures, visual aids for the M&E function.
b. Experience & Knowledge of writing scientific research papers, white papers, research study reports etc.
c. Experience & Knowledge for rapporteuring, documentation of trainings, meetings etc. is a must
d. Experience in leading development of training modules will be a plus
5. Core Competencies
a. Polished written and spoken English and Hindi skills. Proficiency in Marathi will be an added advantage.
b. Have excellent communication and listening skills
c. Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities and to multi task under tight deadlines
d. Demonstrates strong administrative skills and results oriented approach to work
e. Ability to think quickly, resourcefully and improvise when necessary
f. Creative self-starter with an ability to work independently and also as an integral part of a team to deliver results
g. Focuses on deadlines/results and responds positively to feedback
h. Consistently approaches work with energy, passion and a positive, constructive attitude
i. Ability to undertake remote management as required
j. Calm personality and demonstrated multiple stakeholder management skills is a plus.
