*Location* – Loktantrashala, Bhim, Rajasthan
*Duration *– 4-6 weeks
*Start Date* – April 1, 2021
We are opening positions for interns to contribute towards the planning of rural libraries in three villages in Rajsamand and Bhilwara districts of
Rajasthan - Thana, Devdungri and Sohangarh. Previously, a library for both children and youth had been set up by School for Democracy (SFD) in Bhim,Rajsamand district with around 500 books.
This internship programme offers a rich experience in understanding and experiencing rural life, and would facilitate interaction with rural
communities. A particular focus will be on understanding the potential of informal education spaces in rural Rajasthan, and establishing a
sustainable community library.
The *three core objectives* of this initiative are:
- Inculcate the habit of reading and provide the less privileged children in rural areas an opportunity to access the treasures of knowledge
and information.
- Establish a network of village libraries that would serve as center of learning and informal education in villages (especially for the children,
youth, women and workers)
- Engage with children and use the network of libraries to educate, inform and spread awareness on democratic rights and constitutional values.
We are looking for socially committed and self-motivated individuals who are keen to contribute to the learning of students in rural areas. Fluency
in Hindi is preferred, as the internship will involve extensive interaction with local communities. We hope to provide a platform for you to explore
your interests and in the process contribute to young people’s learning experience.
SFD or Devdungri will provide a safe and peaceful stay near Bhim and cover boarding and lodging expenses.
