Purpose of the Position:

To deepen its commitment to the Government of India while also fulfilling its global mission, JSI set up a for-profit company and a not-for-profit foundation in India in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Presently, JSI India is working in the area of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child health (RMNCH), Nutrition, Immunization, Urban Health, Tuberculosis, and Supply Chain. JSI India is now looking for a Consultant – Strategic Partnerships and Business Development who will be primarily responsible for establishingpartnerships and new business development for both the entities. The incumbent will work under the supervision of Managing Director of JSI and closely coordinate with Director- Program Development and other Project Leads. The Consultant will update the existing new business development strategy, business plan and develop a roadmap for revenue generation tapping non-conventional methods such as CSR in addition to the conventional RFP approach. Consultant will establish partnerships to raise funds, build and grow relationship with existing partners and donors to facilitate smooth integration between donors and projects, drive fund raising activities to ensure access to funds to sustain and grow JSI India’s operations.

 

The incumbent must be comfortable in the worlds of both business and the social sector in order to effectively create symbiotic and sustainable relationships that will promote JSI India’s mission. The incumbent is responsible for demonstrating progress on JSI India’s Business development strategy and for delivering results on private sector fundraising. Currently, JSI India’s focus is health and issues directly related to health including Nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and intersection of health and climate change. This is a key position in JSI India and the incumbent will be part of the senior management team with autonomy to pursue the objectives of the position fairly independently.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The key areas of responsibilities of the consultant include:

1. Develop a comprehensive road map for New Business Development Strategy of JSI India with clear milestones and timelines for revenue projections.

  • Refine the strategy based on strategic market intelligence, and develop a road map/ implementation plan and expected revenue streams. This includes, among others, CSR and other types of private sector funding such as shared value propositions, business to business approaches (B2B), and business to charities (B2C) opportunities.
  • Conduct market scan and identify potential target segments for multi- sector engagement (e.g., corporates, foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors, high net-worth individuals, and Indian diaspora, philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, and others).
  • Initiate and engage with potential donors to understand their priorities; present JSI India’s core capabilities and value add aimed at generating new business, in consultation with Managing Director.
  • Identify key measurement indicators/dashboards for tracking results of the strategic road map.

2. Donor/Partner Management

  • Build and maintain a database of all target donors (Corporate donors/CSR, central and state level government partners, foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors and high net worth individuals).
  • Create customized presentations targeting different donor groups, working closely with technical leads and senior management team of JSI India.

3. Lead multi-stakeholder negotiations in co-creating new business opportunities. 

  • Schedule meetings with target donors individually or along with JSI’s Managing Director or Director- Program Development, including members of senior management.
  • Provide close follow-up on action items with each donor (e.g., proposals, technical materials).

4. Identify and lead non-traditional funding mechanisms, and new approaches for engaging private entities

  • Identify pros/cons of non-traditional funding options and innovative ideas for new business development for JSI India (e.g., district mineral fund, public sector partnerships, crowd sourcing, diaspora, social entrepreneurs, HNIs, co-funding opportunities) and develop plans for them.
  • Roll-out each new funding approach, as agreed and track results.
  • Build and mentor JSI/India team’s capacity in shaping and structuring private sector engagement to build the JSI brand.

5. Proposal Development

  • Write or identify consultants and coordinate to develop high quality proposals and concept notes in response to solicitations (e.g. RFPs, bid documents) and unsolicited opportunities in coordination with JSI India senior management team.
  • Review proposals for content, quality and comprehensiveness and provide feedback to Project teams as necessary.

A schedule of timeline-based deliverables will be mutually established during final round of interview with the shortlisted candidates.

 

Qualification and Skills required:

 

JSI India seeks a results-oriented individual with the ability to produce high quality deliverables, managing multiple concurrent tasks, and meet tight deadlines with attention to detail. The successful candidate is required to have:

  • MBA from a premier institute or a comparable business management or social sciences or public health qualification.
  • Strong demonstrated work reflecting solid understanding of institutional and private sector donor landscape and business opportunities.
  • Established track record in leading private sector fundraising.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, of which 5-6 years’ at a senior level executing social sector programs preferably directed towards program expansion & resource mobilization.
  • Deep linkages and networks with the donors, private sector foundations, HNIs and public sector undertaking is critical.

We are looking for a person who can demonstrate expertise and experience in successful new business development through innovative tactics, networks, and art of convincing, focused on public and private sector.
