Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with experience in clinical/community health practice who will plan, implement and supervise the clinical research components in the field area of Chamarajanagar district along with appropriate ancillary care; and clinical stewardship for different interventions in haemoglobinopathies or harmful substance use.

Essential requirements

  • MD Community Medicine, or MSc Community Health Nurse, or
  • MD in Internal Medicine/Paediatrics/Pathology/other disciplines, or
  • PG Diploma in Family Medicine/DNB/MD Family medicine
  • who is looking for experience in community-based/tribal health practice or research
  • Excellent written and communications skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint 

Desirable requirements

  • Prior experience of working on issues related to tribal health/public health research/primary healthcare/haemoglobinopathies/mental health; fluency in speaking Kannada.
  • Prior experience in training health workers at any level
  • Prior 1 – 2 years experience of working in tribal settings
  • Good interpersonal skills, organisational and networking skills 

Job Description

  • Work closely with Program Head to establish a clinical research base at the nearby NGO hospital
  • Work with the concerned team-leads to develop, implement and supervise the clinical examination, appropriate sample collection, transport and testing at appropriate centres for the cohort study and haemoglobinopathy register within Chamarajanagar district
  • Coordinate with concerned team-lead and provide clinical expertise and support implementation and evaluation of small-scale interventions to improve healthcare for Adivasi populations especially related to harmful use of alcohol and tobacco, and haemoglobinopathies
  • Develop appropriate training materials and resources to be deployed and provide training regularly for the different actors within research and/or interventions of different work packages
  • Contribute 20% of the time towards hospital and field station management activities

  • This position is based out of the Public Health Research Field Station of IPH Bengaluru at BR hills, Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka. The candidate will be deputed to Vivekananda Tribal Health Centre at Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra, BR hills for the work, which will act as the Clinical Research Centre under CTRITH. 

The candidate will be required to relocate to BR hills, Chamarajanagar and must be ready for extensive travel and fieldwork in the district as needed. Travel to the Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru office may be required for meetings or other relevant work. Accommodation and other amenities shall be provided.

Duration

The duration of the above-mentioned post will be for 12 months. Based on the performance and project requirements, the contract may be extended annually for a project duration of 4 years. 

Remuneration

Rs 65,000 – 80,000 (CTC) per month based on qualification and experience. Accommodation will be provided at the Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra campus at BR hills.
