Activities and Tasks
Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Weekly biodiversity monitoring on campus and selected reference transects around the campus as per plan;
- Maintenance of spatially explicit data-base on biodiversity;
- Maintenance of herbarium and specimens as per LTUEO plan and protocols;
- Coordinating with other environmental and built environment monitoring and impact measurement;
- Coordinating with citizen science initiatives on data sharing and joint campaigns to measure or monitor specific components of biodiversity and ecological restoration;
- Contributing to knowledge sharing events, publications and presentations featuring IIHS campus biodiversity and ecosystem services, observations and findings at appropriate internal and external forums as needed;
- Participating in biodiversity and ecosystem services-related teaching and training activities; contributing to curriculum design and the development of teaching materials, including case studies, as relevant;
- Mentoring younger team members, supervising their work as needed;
- Actively contributing to grant raising, proposal writing, and growing the resource base to fund scaling up of the LTUEO and SES;
- Providing support to other IIHS activities including academics, research, training, practice, operations and others;
- Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and traveling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed.Structure and Reporting
The Biodiversity Ecologist will be a Senior Associate / Consultant reporting to the Dean – School of Environment and Sustainability at IIHS and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organizations, and students.
Person Specification
This position requires a PhD from an ecological institute or department with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Zoology/ Botany/ Environmental Science. The ideal candidate would possess excellent field natural history and taxonomic skills across a breadth of plant and animal groups (insects, birds, reptiles) with specialization in one or two groups, along with demonstrated ability on outreach and creative communication on biodiversity and related ecosystem services.
