Responsibilities will include the following:
Building a portfolio of investments (for-profit and non-profit)
- Identify new high impact opportunities
- Review and analyze organization plans, investment proposals, and organization budgets; prioritizing opportunities, conducting necessary diligence on prospects
- Support deal execution by taking shortlisted opportunities through approval and closing process, including definitive documentation, legal and financial due diligence (as applicable)
Supporting portfolio organisations
- Work closely with investees (for-profit and non-profit) on strategic aspects to help them scale successfully, achieve their financial targets and impact potential
- Monitor the performance of the investees (for-profit and non-profit) periodically and reporting these to other colleagues
Portfolio Management
- Provide analytic and strategic support to portfolio organizations as needed
- Understand latest trends in the sector, the key players and their plans
- Participate in follow-on and renewal financing discussions, build investment materials
- Assist in building exit pathways (for-profit) and sustainability plans (non-profits)
Engaging with a broader external audience
- Identify key trends in the policy space that could help advance our mission across in data privacy, digital safety, cybersecurity, responsible tech, and open source
- Building relationships with other investors and foundations to identify potential areas of collaboration and co-investment/ grant co-funding
General
- Collaborate internally to advance ON India strategy and mission
- Represent ON India in a manner that is consistent with our mission
- Perform other responsibilities, as necessary
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-5 years of work experience, in a sector-leading organization in management consulting, public policy, venture capital, law, private equity, or media. We are open to motivated and suitable candidates who have had managerial roles in other sectors.
- Demonstrated passion to make a difference in social impact. Specific interest in data privacy, digital safety, cybersecurity, responsible tech, and open source preferred but not necessary.
- Strategic and analytical skills – comfort with numbers and computation; ability to understand key drivers behind a trend and to break down a problem into its fundamental elements; ability to evaluate investment opportunities holistically (strategic fit, expected impact, market opportunity, operational capability, business model, financial performance, valuation, etc.)
- Good communication skills – excellent writing and presentation skills; ability to communicate succinctly
- Good interpersonal skills – ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to provide guidance to investees in a thoughtful and humble manner
- Ability to quickly learn investment execution (sourcing, analyzing, teeing up for decision-making, negotiating, documenting, closing, etc.).
- Prior demonstrated interest in / experience with social entrepreneurship and creating positive social impact
- Impeccable project management skills; ability to manage many ongoing projects or investments at the same time and with equal vigour
- Masters degree preferred (but not necessary), in areas such as public policy, economic law, business administration, journalism and others
