Role and Responsibility:

  • Undertake a comprehensive technical review on existing data on indicators on empowerment of women and its monitoring and make recommendations to the MWCD based on the review.
  • Provide technical inputs from a gender perspective on behalf of the Ministry on references made by other Ministries/Departments on policies, programmes and legislations which are proposed, having a bearing on Women’s Empowerment. This would include providing comments on Cabinet notes and EFC memos forwarded by various ministries; inputs for various Parliamentary Committee submissions; and inputs for Ministry’s submission to International Delegation/visits, proposed Conventions and agreement etc.
  • Develop and propose recommendations for restructuring of schemes and programmes of MWCD to track and monitor sex disaggregated data on empowerment of women.
  • Assist the Ministry in developing MIS of some of the centrally sponsored schemes targeting women and girls to collect and to monitor sex disaggregated data.
  • Assist the MWCD in undertaking action on gender statistics as per the Ministry’s Annual & Five Year Strategic Plans.
  • Assist the MWCD in undertaking review and action related to global gender indices including Global Gender Gap Index, Gender Development Index and Gender Inequality Index.
  • Any other duties incidental to the above-mentioned tasks as assigned by Supervisor from time to time.

DELIVERABLES:
Monthly detailed and comprehensive narrative report of all activities undertaken (as part of the report  include templates &  plans developed, anecdotes that capture the process, partnerships, best practices and lessons learnt, photographs, press coverage, questionnaires, human interest stories, lists of participants, key strategies and recommendations) in hard and soft copy will be submitted to UN Women with an acknowledgement of UN Women’s support to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Master degree (or equivalent) in development related disciplines, economics, statistics, development or other social science fields

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experiences in the field of gender and statistics at the national and/or international level with a strong focus on India;
  • Experience in the planning and implementation of large-scale data collection and related statistical activities in developing countries;
  • Strong technical expertise in the drafting of statistics-based research and related reports, and in providing training on statistical and data management issues, preferably in the context of gender and statistics;
  • Experience in survey questionnaire and sample design, data processing, data quality assessment and data analysis. Familiarity with the development and application of household-based survey tools, establishment surveys and administrative records for generating information on progress towards gender equality and empowerment of women (SDG 5 and other gender-related SDG indicators);
  • Familiarity with UN Women’s mandate and related work in the Asia-Pacific region.

Language:

  • Fluency in English and Hindi.
