Job Description:
- Coordinate and implement the country program, maintain existing and develop new partnerships with various stakeholders;
- Develop and implement a clear agroforestry strategy for the country in collaboration with national program and other stakeholders;
- Be a point of contact for national and international partners seeking to work with ICRAF in agroforestry in the country;
- Lead ICRAF’s agroforestry research agenda and supervise India based team;
- Lead preparation, implementation, and monitoring of CIFOR-ICRAF country programme and budget and prepare periodic progress reports;
- Liaise with CIFOR-ICRAF Continental Directors, Theme leaders, globally recruited scientists, and scientists located in different countries for technical exchange and collaboration & contribute to CIFOR-ICRAF projects;
- Design and implement an effective resource mobilization strategy aimed at supporting and expanding CIFOR-ICRAF’s country and regional project portfolio through funding form traditional and non-traditional donors;
- Contribute to the generation of International Public Goods through publication in peer reviewed journals and other media;
- Lead, coordinate or participate in specific empirical research and studies, organize and/or provide support to targeted training programs;
- Communicate with counterparts in the respective region through regular exchange, policy briefs and other fora and liaise with donors on a regular basis;
- Coordinate collaborative resource mobilization activities to secure country and regional level program funding;
- Develop partnerships and promote the role of agroforestry/ forestry in poverty reduction, climate change, food and nutrition security, soil health improvement, and development of dry lands;
- Liaise with host country government agencies, donor agencies and other relevant organizations to improve CIFOR-ICRAF representation.
Generic Duties
- Initiate and participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic management plans, budgets and business process improvement programmes aimed at improving organizational effectiveness;
- Develop and implement strategies for creating a culture based on transparency, integrity, accountability to ensure that programme activities are undertaken on sound management principles and set standards, policies, and procedures;
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff to ensure that the candidates selected have the required job competencies and are provided with orientation and induction programme necessary for effective job performance;
- Review incidents of violations against organizational policy and handle employee disputes and take appropriate action in line with approved policies, procedures, and regulations;
- Conduct training needs assessment, design and implement training programmes aimed at equipping staff with appropriate job competencies to improve delivery of high-quality services;
- Plan, monitor and evaluate staff performance against their key performance indicators and implement development action plans aimed at building the capacity of individuals and multi-disciplinary teams.
Other Responsibilities
- Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by ICRAF’s Safety Policy; and cooperate with ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws;
- Identify and take action to mitigate potential risks within the work area;
- Follow and encourage others to adhere to ICRAF policies and procedures;
- Mentor junior team members & provide guidance;
- Any other responsibility assigned by Director-Asia/CIFOR-ICRAF management.
Requirements
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- PhD in Agroforestry, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Socio Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture or related fields including earth sciences, socio-ecological sciences, anthropology, etc.
- Up to (10) years hands-on field experience in managing interdisciplinary programmes and multi-disciplinary staff and projects focusing on the rural poor, sustainable agroecosystems, agroecology, ideally with experience of working with CG centers /international organizations.
- Experience in designing and implementing multi-institutional programmes and projects.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong skills in conceptualization, communication, and reporting.
- Clearly established reputation and credibility in international, regional, national development networks.
- Proven ability to publish scientific articles in refereed journals.
- Ability to contribute to the research and development literature.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the role of science in contributing to development in rural areas.
- Proven resource mobilization skills including proven evidence of ability to raise funds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and relational skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
