About CAG
Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) is a 33-year-old non-profit, non-political and professional organisation that works towards protecting citizens' rights in consumer and environmental issues and promoting good governance processes including transparency, accountability and participatory decision-making.
Project description
Consumer Protection has been the key focus of CAG since inception. Electricity governance has emerged as a key work area in the last decade. Currently, CAG is working on an initiative to empower consumers on issues related to electricity governance covering regulation, policy and administration, renewable energy and energy efficiency. CAG focuses on research, training/capacity building, information dissemination, network building and advocacy related work.
Responsibilities
● Undertake research on electricity-related topics such as renewable energy,electricity generation, demand-side management etc.
● Undertake research and publish reports on topics not limited to
o Consumer friendly processes related to electricity rules and regulations and rooftop solar installations
o Developing a just energy transition framework for Indian electricity sector
o Renewable Energy RE/Energy Efficiency in small commercial/micro enterprises
o Consumer friendly competition in the electricity sector
o Renewable energy and livelihood solutions
● Publish blog posts, white papers and position pieces
● Other tasks as directed by the Project Lead
● Support the Director - Consumer Protection in achieving organisational and team goals

Education
Candidates should have a graduate or a post-graduate degree with specialisation in electrical or environmental engineering. Graduates/post-graduates from legal,economics or social science background, with research skills, relevant experience and knowledge in energy related topics will also be considered.
Work Experience
Candidates should have at least 5 to 8 years of relevant research experience,with experience of working with multiple partner organisations in or with the public sector, non-governmental sector or international organisations. Familiarity in electricity related issues will be an advantage.
Languages
For the position, fluency in oral and written English and Tamil is mandatory.
Travel
The position is based in Chennai. He/she may be expected to travel to the conferences,workshops and stakeholder meetings in Tamil Nadu and India as may be required.
