About The Equity and Social Policy Programme

We are seeking to appoint a Research Officer to the Equity and Social Policy Programme to undertake analysis on poverty, inequality and social policy, with a focus on quantitative monitoring and analysis.

 

ODI’s Equity and Social Policy Programme is a multidisciplinary research and advisory Programme, leading the Institute’s work on poverty, inequality and social policy, encompassing social protection, education and health. It supports the design and implementation of effective social and economic policies through high quality applied research and provides policy advice on key social policy issues.

About the role

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates with a strong background in poverty, inequality and policy analysis and research methods. Good knowledge of management and analysis of large micro-datasets, including administrative and household surveys, statistical and micro-econometric analysis is required. The candidate should have demonstrable experience in statistical and applied micro-econometric analysis of poverty and inequality and in evaluation of social and economic policies and programmes.

 

About you

You will have:

  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in economics, sociology, international development, public policy or related social sciences.
  • Training and experience in analysis and synthesis of evidence/data from an array of data sources.
  • Knowledge of key issues and actors in international development, with a focus on poverty, inequality and social and economic policy.
  • Strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly.
  • A strong background in statistics and econometrics, including with outputs from standard analysis software, enabling interpretation and utilisation of research findings from statistical and econometric studies.
  • An interest in poverty dynamics analysis of household panel datasets and in drawing out policy and programming implications.
  • Good organisational and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Time management skills, including managing a complex and varied workload.
  • Fluency in English, and preferably a good command of at least one other language.
