About the Programme
As we enter a new decade of the 21st century, the stigma around Menstruation and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) still continues to exist in parts of India. It complicates and degrades the health of not only an individual but also has a lasting effect on the whole family and its upcoming generation. The quality of health services around MHH and SRH also remain poor and largely inaccessible in rural pockets of India. This program aims at getting Doctors onboard for 3/6 months (6 hours/week) and provides them with a unique opportunity to change this reality with their expertise, thus ensuring that right information and health advice can reach those in need through the medium of tele-health consultations.
About the Organization
Sukhibhava Foundation is a Bangalore based not-for-profit organization working in the space of Health to end stigma around Menstruation and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH). We are engaging with adolescent girls, women, adolescent boys & men from some of the most marginalised communities across India through our on-ground behavioural changes program, The Period Fellowship and Hello Saheli Helpline.
About Free Aarogya Saathi (Hello Saheli) Helpline
Taking into consideration the impact of COVID-19 on the marginalised communities, we started a free tele-Health Helpline called ‘Aarogya Saathi’ (formerly called ‘Hello Saheli’)- 08047104234 that enabled us to address critical menstrual and sexual reproductive health needs via free educational content and no cost telemedicine consultations, thus creating a safe spaces for dialogue, at scale across India. Currently, 33,000 women are connected with us through the helpline. Our female frontline workers who were implementing the behavioural change program in the communities were trained to become helpline agents and they handle the incoming & outgoing calls on the helpline at present. Recently, we also added education content around men’s SRH and recruited male helpline agents to address calls from men in the communities.
About the Helpline Flow
When someone calls the helpline they can either choose to:
Subscribe to education content
Directly speak with helpline agent
Consult a Doctor regarding their health concerns
When a caller selects the option to speak to a helpline agent, they get connected with the available agent based on the caller's gender. If they have a knowledge related query it is resolved by the agent. If they have a health concern that needs medical intervention, the agent schedules a call with the doctor on the same day or next day based on the availability of the doctor. Caller’s basic profile and health concerns are shared with the doctor over whatsapp by the agent before the scheduled call. The agent then facilitates a conference call between the caller and the doctor and shares the prescription with the caller over Whatsapp.
Note:- All the calls are recorded for quality and training purposes. We preserve the recordings with high confidentiality.
