Project Manager: Worker Safety/Auto-sector Supply Chain Accidents Prevention

Safe in India Foundation (“SII”) seeks a passionate experienced individual to help improve safety in India’s auto-sector supply chain on a full-time/part-time consulting basis.

SII, a Community Service Organisation, founded by alumni of IIMA, and advised by a senior Council of Advisors, is engaged in three key social-impact areas:

(a) assisting workers injured in Gurgaon-Faridabad factories with their ESIC healthcare and compensation,

(b) using this experience to help improve ESIC processes for about 14 crore Indians depending directly or indirectly on ESIC and,

(c) using this evidence to improve safety in Indian auto-sector supply chain to reduce such accidents for more than 3 crore workers.

Since 2016, SII has assisted 2,700+ workers with healthcare and compensations (value in excess of Rs 20 crores), influenced ESIC in numerous process improvements, and started accident prevention initiative with Central/State ministries, their relevant agencies and the auto-sector and its apex associations. 

Role: This is a key strategy implementation role, reporting to SII Co-Founder & CEO, and working closely with SII Head of Safety, to assist in a number of initiatives agreed with the Central and State Labour Ministries and their relevant agencies, and the Indian auto-sector brands and their apex organisations – SIAM and ACMA, including the following (several others not mentioned below for reasons of confidentiality):

1. Design, agree with relevant stakeholders in state and industry, and implement effective safety awareness and training programmes for factory-workers and supervisors, both physically and through SII social media platforms. “Empower workers with knowledge”.
2. Implement initiatives of with the objective of “investment in factory safety improves productivity” with government agencies eg. MSME ministry.

3. Identifying areas of OSH education for technical professionals and workers, in institutes like the Central Labour Institute, ITI/Diploma/Engineering and developing actions to strengthen them at policy and implementation level.
4. Primary and secondary data collection and analysis , as agreed, to inform and co-author SII’s annual series of accident prevention reports “CRUSHED”.

5. Represent SII externally and build relationships with senior stakeholders, nationally and regionally, to execute these projects to high quality and effectiveness.

Requirements:

(a) At least 3-5 years’ impact experience in social sector and/or manufacturing/training and/or project management and/or policy research/implementation,

(b) Strong implementation experience backed by strong English and Hindi Communication skills,

(c) Ideally at least graduate/ equivalent,

(d) Genuine ability to empathise with the cause of Indian workers in line with our values,

(e) Willingness to work and engage with the community,

(f) Location ideally Gurgaon/Delhi,

(g) Commitment to this role for at least 2-3 years,
 

Remuneration: Competitive NGO remuneration, based on skills and experience. Senior professionals, who wish to work part time, would also be remunerated based on time and delivery.
