Position: Senior Communications Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write and edit compelling content including, press releases, case studies, fact sheets, briefings, statements, newsletters, blogs, and op-eds
- Plan and execute publicity and campaign strategies that result in high-quality media coverage for the Environmental Health division and its subject matter experts
- Develop and implement communications outputs including social media campaigns, website promotion, media trainings, agency/vendor management and public relations.
- Coordinate across teams and with key communication partners to prioritize, track, and realize key communication moments, events, and opportunities
- Oversee release of Vital Strategies reports and other deliverables, including development of press releases, media advisories, statements and social media content; organizing in-person and/or virtual releases as relevant
- Monitor news and follow trends in relevant areas and proactively pitch ideas for stories and articles, including interviews and statements from key spokespeople
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and maintain a media database
- Track communication activities and prepare and submit PR reports
- Build and maintain relationships with civil society organizations and other stakeholders involved with environmental health work.
- Represent Vital Strategies with partners and stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, meeting agendas as needed.
- Organize media events
- Lead internal media training sessions and support programs that train journalists on environmental health.
- Develop and update general promotional material and publications (brochures, web content and toolkits, fact sheets, one-pagers) and other collateral material, as needed
- Contribute strategically to the development of environmental health work in South and Southeast Asia.
Education
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in public health or media relations, journalism, or related field.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of communications experience
- Prior working experience with international non-governmental organizations is an advantage
- Knowledge of media landscape in South and Southeast Asia
- Clear communicator, writer and editor with great attention to detail.
- Strong media relations experience with ability to think creatively and generate new story angles.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to bring new creative ideas to communicate the organization's work and grow audiences and reach.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Interest in public health and/or environmental issues
- Fluent in English
- Preferred proficiency in one or more regional languages
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work flexibly with colleagues across time zones
- Ability to work efficiently in both remote and in-person settings as needed
