The Role: 

BVT is looking for a highly motivated individual passionate about working in the agriculture and allied sectors. 

A Fund Administrator should have a good understanding and proven experience in agroecology. They should have basic knowledge about the ecosystem, including some sense of stakeholders such as donors, CSOs, activist organisations, research agencies and most importantly, the challenges of small and marginal farmers, particularly women. 

They should be well versed with productivity tools and possess outstanding communication skills, including writing. Panache for numbers is critical. They should be able to work with stakeholders from across the spectrum. They should also have had some experience in forming part of, or facilitating, a learning community.

Key responsibilities for the position: 

Secretarial support 

  • Secretarial function to the Executive Committee

  • Secretarial role to the Advisory Board 

  • In discussions with the Executive Committee and the Advisory Board, create guidelines for the priority funding areas the fund will consider.

Grantmaking 

 

  • Announce the grant calls

  • Solicit and organise proposals

  • Communicate with potential grantees

  • Support the Advisory Board in reviewing and selecting proposals

  • Facilitate learning among grantee

  • Solicit and gather reports from each grantee as well as occasional phone meetings or site visits

  • Gather stories and photos from grantees to make visible their work 

  • Facilitate financial and regulatory due diligence through collaboration with an in-house expert or an external consultant. 

  • Legal and Financial

  • Support with legal and regulatory matters relating to operating the fund

  • Who can apply: 

  • A minimum of 4 to 6 years of work experience in related areas is preferable. 

  • Outstanding non-profit management skills

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • High cultural competency in communicating with people from diverse backgrounds

  • A high degree of computer literacy with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications

  • Demonstrating proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability and ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment. 

  • Hands-on, with the ability to operate tactically as well as think strategically

  • Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives

  • Able to work a flexible schedule

  • Ability to work remotely 

  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team setting

  • Cross-cultural understanding and perspective, awareness and appreciation of differing worldviews, and the ability to communicate with and learn from  grantees, staff, volunteers, and consultants

  • Willingness to learn, grow and develop at a personal and professional front at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve. 

  • Help with fundraising and fund management as requested

  • Support with financial management and reporting
