Position: Computational Linguist

Compensation: 6.6 lakh- 7.8 lakh INR per annum (Based on experience) 

Essential Qualifications

  1. Any one of the following
    1. PG in Linguistics / Computational Linguistics with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade

AND

Experience of working in a relevant NLP / Speech / Linguistics project for at least 1 year.

OR

    1. UG or higher in Computer Science / AI / Speech Technologies / related field with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade

AND

Experience of working in a relevant NLP / Speech / Linguistics project for at least 3 years.

  1. Proficiency in Python Programming and Scripting.

Desirable Qualifications

One or more of the following qualifications will give a distinctive advantage to the prospective candidates

  1. UGC-NET / JRF OR M.Phil. / PhD in a relevant area of research.
  2. Native / Native - like competence in Hindi and English.
  3. Knowledge of / expertise in Pragmatics, especially in the post-modernist, interactional approaches and (im)politeness theory, in general.
  4. Prior experience of working in a project specifically related to aggressive and hateful language.
  5. Experience of Machine Learning / Deep Learning Projects.
  6. Experience of working in Linux (preferably, Ubuntu).

About the Role

We are looking for a Computational Linguist to work on our research project titled “Measuring Harm Potential of Social Media Content in India”, being carried out in collaboration with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in collection, cleaning and annotation of the dataset related to those incidents which led to the real-world harm.
  • Assist in analysis of the dataset and developing the framework for analysing the dataset.
  • Assist in building theoretical models that could explain and quantify the harm potential of content on social media.
  • Assist in building automated systems that could automatically predict the harm potential of given content on social media.
  • Conduct independent research in an area related to the general project topic and publish single-authored / joint (with other project staff) research papers / monographs in reputed journals and conferences.
  • Assist in conducting and managing events such as workshops, seminars, short-term courses, etc related to the areas of research in the project.
