Reason for the hire:
Arogya World is starting a new initiative in India called “Arogya City” – which essentially means a Healthy City. Arogya World is looking for a dynamic and skilled project manager to lead the new initiative’s efforts in Bangalore. This is a great opportunity for a Kannada speaking ambitiousprofessional to develop their leadership skills and have a real sense of accomplishment.
She/he will work closely with state government authorities, and manage all stakeholders, to advance work on Bangalore as India’s first Arogya City. Most significant is that he/she will manage all aspects of the pioneering Arogya City 2022 summit and will look for opportunities to expand Arogya World programs and manage day-to-day collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with state and focus district (Bangalore)- level government personnel.
• The project will benefit from the advice and insights of a high-level advisory committee. The Senior Manager will take direction from this committee and manage the monthly committee meeting.
• Connect and be in touch with various District Administrators/ District Heads, Government officials to gain access and necessary permissions for implementation.
• Manage all aspects of Arogya City 2022 Summit, and work towards the next one in 2025. Curate and manage the multi sectoral initiative. Work with city wide stakeholders and gather pledges from multiple players (academia, private sector, public sector, civil society) to improve Bangalore’s health. Secure social media and PR support. Share best practices from other
Healthy City efforts around the world, including sister city San Francisco.
• Serve as a Business Partner, a trusted advisor, communicating a shared vision to engage stakeholders in the achievement of Arogya's goals.
• Coordinate with various Arogya program and functional heads. Secure Arogya team’s support.
• Ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.
• Responsible, over the longer term, for finding opportunities for implementation of Arogya tools and programs, in partnership with government. Eg. expand schools, mDiabetes and MyThali programs in Karnataka. Organize CSR Roundtables to spur funding for development projects in the state.
• Oversee all activities for such state wide program implementation and be the main contact point for stakeholders in the state and for district (BLR) administration.
• Leverage program management tools and maintain close attention to detail to ensure that timelines and deliverables are met.
• Prepare and present monthly reports during team meetings
• Support with hiring new staff for the team as needed.
Must Haves:
• Bachelor’s degree in any field; Master’s degree and a focus on public health is preferred
• Proven experience in a program management role, preferably for 5+ years, especially engagement with government stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success in collaborating effectively with diverse partners.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal. Knowledge of regional local language (Kannada) an asset.
• Attention to detail coupled with an ability to visualize the “big picture” and drive strategy.
• Anticipate risks and issues before they occur and solve problems as they arise.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Google Documents, and other common computer programs.
• Strong work ethic and high sense of integrity are key.
