Position: Researcher/ Evaluator

Qualifications and Experience:

 A Post-graduate diploma or Masters degree in Monitoring and Evaluation;

 Outstanding analytical and conceptual skills;

 Good understanding of descriptive statistics and qualitative research methods (experience in conducting literature reviews and developing theories of change an advantage);

 Microsoft Office, Internet and email computer skills (SPSS and Atlas_1ti skills a plus);

 Knowledge of and ability to develop indicators and design monitoring and evaluation data collection instruments (interview schedules, questionnaires etc.);

 Knowledge of the use of graphic presentation including computerized graphics;

 Experience with research design, data collection techniques incl. surveys, data analysis and report writing;

 Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

 Language proficiency in more than one of the eleven official languages a plus;

 Strong report writing skills and analytical approach;

 Motivated and self-driven;

 Ability to work to multiple deadlines and ensure efficient time and self-management;

 Fluency in English (additional South African languages such as Xhosa, Zulu etc. will be an advantage);

 High energy level;

 Ideally located in Cape Town

ANNEXURE: JOB DESCRIPTION:

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Monitoring and Evaluation Support/Coordination

 Provides support to monitoring and evaluation manager on specific projects:

o Contribute towards project design;

o Assist the manager in preparing for project inception – attend inception meetings and develop workplans;

o Assists with project planning and preparation to facilitate a smooth implementation of project activities;

o Assists with materials development in the form of programme theory and logic models, monitoring and evaluation instruments, training manuals and presentations;

o Assists with coordinating project roll out;

 Supports the financial management of projects

o Maintain an understanding of project budgets;

o Plan appropriately for project expenditure, in line with budgets;

o Assist with processing project-related invoices;

o Maintain accurate records of expenses incurred on projects;

 Liaison with all parties involved in project

o Keep monitoring and evaluation specialist manager responsible for projects updated on a regular basis;

o Liaise with monitoring and evaluation manager regarding any need to make changes to the workplan and project activities;

o Liaise with contracted staff on an ongoing basis;

o Participate actively in project-related meetings;

o Quality assure processes and activities to ensure work completed according to company quality standards and client expectations;

 Timeous communication about risks and mitigating factors that may stymie project activities is necessary

o Identify and discuss factors that may contribute to or hinder project activities so that appropriate intervention strategies can be considered; Data Collection and Analysis

 Manage primary data collection for specific components of monitoring and evaluation projects;

 Maintain a lead role for other contracted researchers1 ;

 Provide guidance and support to contracted researchers and manage contracted researchers where necessary;

 Quality assure data collection process and data;

 Design databases for data capturing, plan for data capturing and coding;

 Manage data capturing where necessary;

 Quality assure, verify and clean captured data;

 Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of primary and secondary data; Reporting and Dissemination

 Prepares progress report as per project and client requirements;

 Conducts document and literature reviews and prepares reports on the findings;

 Assists with preparation of relevant reports and contributing components to reports;

 Assists with development of presentations;

 Presenting research findings; Business Development

 Maintain contact with current and past clients (both internal and external) for possibilities of new projects and outsourcing of work;

 Contribute to the development of proposals for new projects; Knowledge Dissemination

 Attend and report back on seminars and conferences;

 Disseminate papers, monographs, articles and bulletins as per the organisation’s publication policy; Generic Requirements and Team Work

 Contribute to the development of a professional working and learning environment in the organization;

 Ensure adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures;

 Work in a flexible manner in line with the organisation’s corporate objectives and role and to be willing to undertake other duties as reasonably requested;

 Provide excellent customer care in dealings with the public;

 Understanding of the sensitivities of our funders and partners;

 Work in the best interests of the company;

 Ability to carry out several projects at any one time, adapting to the changing priorities of the business;

 Ability to work confidently and productively on own initiative, and to manage a diverse and demanding workload to set timescales and deadlines.
