Position: Analytical Communications Specialist

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Telangana government to capture insights and data to include in the annual Socio-Economic Outlook (SEO) survey

  • Iterate with the department heads to finalize the flow of the chapters to be included in the SEO survey

  • Coordinate with various departments in the state government to collect sector / department specific data

  • Undertake secondary research and collate publicly available data required for the survey

  • Analyse data received from line departments and publicly available sources to arrive at meaningful trends and insights

  • Use data visualization tools to present the trends and insights using charts, graphs, maps etc.

  • Draw inferences from the analyses and other qualitative information shared by the line

  • departments to draft the narrative of identified chapters

  • Maintain systems and processes to ensure that the publication meets the high standards governments expect from CEGIS

  • Proofread and edit chapters in the survey to come up with a coherent output

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities 

  • Education and Experience  

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in literature, economics, public policy, social science or related fields

    • 3 to 5 years of drafting and editing content in the policy / development context

Personal Characteristics and Desired Qualities

  • Fluency in English required

  • Some knowledge of Telugu (preferred but not required) 

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills (ability to communicate complex ideas in a meaningful way and across different audiences) within and outside the organization

  • An analytical bent of mind, with experience handling and analyzing large, messy datasets

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools to present trends and patterns via charts, graphs, and maps

  • Ability to build strong relationships, ideally based on experience of working with Indian state governments

  • Versatility to be comfortable taking on different projects and quickly dive into new fields

  • Ability to work under pressure by handling competing priorities, plan timelines and meet deadlines, maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality outputs

  • Passion for improving the effectiveness of Indian States, and alignment with CEGIS’s theory of change/ impact

  • Ability to collaborate and actively listen to others, understanding and valuing others’ views
