What we are looking for:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree; graduate degree preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in socioeconomic development with global business or international NGO/IGO
  • Expert in Global Sustainability, economic development, and sustainable agriculture
  • Experience with supply chain economic analysis
  • Broad knowledge of sustainability agenda in food and drink Industry, particularly in agricultural sector
  • Ability to influence others, at all levels, without direct authority
  • Highly effective collaborator and networker - able to build and manage complex relationships internally and externally
  • Outstanding communications skills with ability to represent Mars to a wide range of external audiences
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with and influencing third party experts, NGOs, and IGOs.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

The position plays both a strategic and operational role:

  • Refine and promote Mars Position on Smallholder Farmer Income;
  • Proactive engagement, guidance, capability building and counsel on income goals, strategies, policies, programs, and governance across entire value chain, Including deep collaboration on Income strategies and Initiatives In cocoa, rice, and mint supply chains;
  • Work closely with sustainable sourcing leads within Mars Wrigley, Pet Nutrition, Mars Vet Health and Mars Food on deployment of Next Generation Sourcing programs and measurement frameworks;
  • Collaborate with Rewards and P&O on workplace wage policies;
  • Lead Farmer Income Lab through collaborating with business, NGO and IGO members on research, lighthouse programs and common core metrics designed to drive Impact at scale in addressing smallholder farmer poverty.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Set and implement global strategies, policies, and programs to enable Mars to act on smallholder poverty within our prioritized supply chains (cocoa, rice, mint);
  • Oversee origin advance Income Impact framework to reduce risks and deliver value to our business; framework Includes changes in systems, conditions and voice that are critical to enable resilient outcomes
  • Develop enterprise wide, end-to-end wage and Income strategy that reflects best practices related to living income/living wage in direct workplaces, Tier 1 supplier operations and extended supply chains
  • Provide thought leadership, operational guidance, coaching, and capability building on critical Mars programs such as Next Generation Sourcing / Origin Advance Income and other Sustainable in a Generation Plan programs
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure key stakeholders are kept apprised of sensitive income issues
  • Guide the business toward effective Issue resolution, as necessary
  • Coordinate performance measurement and data management regarding Next Generation Sourcing / Origin Advance Income
  • Lead Farmer Income Lab, an Innovative 'think-do' tank founded by Mars In 2017: (1) manage Innovative research agenda; (2) design and activate Lighthouse Programs to put research In to action In key agricultural supply chains; (3) establish and promote use of common core of metrics for assessment of Impact across companies and Initiatives; manage day-to-day relationships with Lab members.
  • Build and maintain external relationships focused on establishing Mars as a leader in our approach to addressing farmer poverty and supporting business action on SDG1 (no poverty)
  • Represent Mars externally as lead expert on Income related topics
