Communications Officer

FUNCTION:
The Communication Officer for Heifer International India’s Accelerating Incomes Project will work closely with Heifer International’s India/Global Communications Team and provide support in documentation and dissemination of impact data with appropriate stakeholders. The Communication Officer’s outputs will include communications products that support the project’s social behavioral change objective around increasing awareness and education, written and audiovisual communication and positioning products, and potential participation in project-related forums and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES
A. Project Communications & Product Development (50%):

  • In coordination with the project team and Heifer’s global communications team, support the development of the project’s communications strategy following the donor’s requirements and Heifer’s global communication priorities.
  • Coordinate the design, development, and quality control of the projects’ communication products and materials following donor’s and Heifer’s branding and marketing requirements.
  • Work closely with different departments and teams to identify and capture project achievements, innovative models, and success stories with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the project team to plan and execute project launches, media conferences, and other events as needed.
  • Coordinate the biannual review of the project’s communication plan.
  • Manage the timely production of high-quality project reports including but not limited to annual, quarterly, and monthly reports.
  • Provide representation and participation in outreach and positioning events and forums. 
  • Support the relationship development and linkage with identified stakeholders such as donors, partners, local NGOs and civil organizations, media contacts, government officers, etc.
  • Communication plans and activities are implemented on time and within budget.

B. Support Rural Marketing, Branding and Mass Media Campaigns & Social Media Activities (25%):

  • Provide coordination to the development of the project’s mass media and digital campaigns and outreach strategy ensuring that the plan is monitored quarterly.
  • Manage the project’s social media accounts.
  • Generate an annual plan of key project mass media activities, events, and materials.
  • Develop key messages and materials including radio, print, and electric media materials on poultry production, nutrition, and consumption.
  • Support the development of messaging and instructions targeted towards consumers of the small pack animal feed additive to ensure proper use ad adoption.
  • Ensure both proactive and reactive communication to stakeholders concerning project events.

D. Knowledgement Management (20%):

  • Communication assets are safeguarded and well managed.
  • Develop, maintain, and update communication and networking files and Develop and maintain a stakeholder database.
  • Organization and project participants are well conversant with the intervention in question.
  • Project capacity development needs in communications and train staff in the use of communication equipment, writing skills, media relations, etc. 
  • Contribution to the establishment of an Animal Health and Production Information System in the target counties.
  • Secure coverage in relevant newspapers and journals.
  • Facilitate capacity-building program for country staff on communication practices, channels, platforms, and products.
  • Developing and sharing Situational Reports in case of disasters or natural calamities.
  • Following and communicating change in state-level policies and guidelines affecting the project or functioning of the implementing agencies.

 

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Development Studies, or related field, plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

1. Prior working experience supporting agricultural or Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) related research and development is a plus.

2. Prior knowledge and experience in the field of Social Behaviour Change Communications and Monitoring and Evaluation.

Most Critical Proficiencies:

1. Must be able to synthesize technical material into short and concise communication pieces across different platforms.

2. Good analytical and writing skills and ability to verify the information.

3. Excellent qualities and management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

4. A good understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger, environment, natural resources management, climate change, and knowledge of the context to which non-profit organizations operate.

5. Knowledge and ability to articulate pertinent issues in agricultural or health-related research and development is essential and previous experience with funded projects.

6. Ability to promote the vision and strategic goals of Heifer International and its partners.

7. Experience in creating, marketing, and disseminating publications and other communications products.

8. Fluency in Microsoft office, adobe acrobat, and Adobe Creative Suite.

9. Conversant with communication software for reporting video, and photo editing

10. Strong organizational skills.

11. Skilled at strategic thinking and anticipating future developments and trends to incorporate them into organizational plans.

12. Demonstrated proficiency in English, Telugu, and Hindi, oral and written.
