Your Role and Responsibilities:
The Health and Safety (H&S) Manager is responsible for the strategy and design of the well-being and medical programs for Country of Posting. They are responsible for managing a wide-range of programs or people that typically span years. The programs are typically global and require the ability to work with representatives from geographies and ensure their needs and requirements are met. People responsibilities include ensuring that the right person is assigned to solve the right problem at just the right time. They may be responsible for investment decisions or for managing or understanding the profit and loss of a business area.

  • As determined by country legislation and standards. some examples:
  • Provide management and leadership of a multi-functional team, comprised of health, safety, and medical professionals.
  • Support team’s goals and provide strategic direction by defining objectives within the specified business concept or project.
  • Provide ongoing technical/operational guidance to lead professional work teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements and accountability across Regional/country operations to enable the H&S strategy, mission and vision.
  • Represent Country / Region on Geography and Global H&S Teams.
  • Recognize complex problems related to functional objectives. Analyze situations and implement solutions, or develop new system elements, procedures or processes.
  • Develop and implement country and geography well-being business policies, strategies and initiatives.
  • Utilize expertise to directly influence people outside department or function. Lead H&S stakeholder interactions on plans, resources and finances to achieve company and organizational objectives.
  • Provide health, safety and medical policy interpretation, advice and council to country leaders, business unit executive management, HR and H&S.
  • Manage the implementation and development of continual improvements consistent with regulatory requirements, and in alignment with the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Analyze Health and Safety Management System results and recommend appropriate actions and priorities.
  • Develop creative solutions to internal stakeholder health, wellness and safety concerns.
  • Deliver country health & safety communications and education programs. Anticipate, create and define innovative concepts, applying state of the art health & safety technologies.
  • Develop, review, monitor and manage financial plans, business cases and cost/expense controls for well-being services.
  • Plans and conduct complex negotiations reaching lasting agreements and commitments.
  • Collaborate with team members globally in the design of programs and H&S strategy.
  • Empowered to make decisions, committing staff and financial resources.
  • Has the ability to work on global projects with international colleagues across various time zones, and Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • As determined by country legislation and standards. some examples:
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in leading an occupational health & safety team.
  • Degree in an occupational health or safety related discipline. Acceptable degrees include medical education from an accredited school, or occupational health and safety management.
  • Professional Certification in area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in successfully leading an integrated function of health & safety professionals.
  • Business unit knowledge and professional mastery related to Regional operations, strategies and objectives in leading edge or critical situations.
